Tao Jiang is a Full Professor in the School of Minerals Processing and Bioengineering at Central South University, China. He received his M.S. degree in 1986 and Ph.D. degree in 1990, both from Central South University of Technology. Then he joined the university and served as an Assistant Professor (1990–1992) and Full Professor (1992–now). From 2000 to 2003, he was a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Utah, USA. He acts as the Deputy Director of the Technical Committee of the National Engineering Research Center of Sintering and Pelletizing, the Deputy Director of the Metallurgical Solid Waste Resource Utilization Branch of the Chinese Society of Metals, and served as the Chair of the Pyrometallurgy Committee of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS). He was granted the National Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Specially Appointed Professor of Chang Jiang Scholar Program of China, and other talent programs. In 2021, he was elected Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

Dr. Jiang has long been engaged in the research of minerals processing and extraction metallurgy. He led the efforts to develop a variety of key technologies for uniform-heat thick-bed sintering, pelletizing, and composite agglomeration of iron ores. He created a novel process of ferronickel-making based on solid-state reduction-magnetic separation. Moreover, he invented a composite binder for iron ore pelletizing and a method for preparing direct reduced iron by one-step high-temperature reduction. The research achievements have been applied in most iron and steel enterprises in China and other companies abroad, and have promoted the upgrading of China's production technologies of ironmaking burden, ferronickel, and direct reduced iron, with improvement of the availability of resources. Dr. Jiang won 3 China's State Science and Technology Awards and 8 first-class awards at the provincial and ministerial levels. He published 8 monographs and 370 papers and holds more than 90 Chinese patents. He also organized 12 international academic conferences and edited 9 international symposium proceedings.
